Beyond business, Armstrong is a Director at Hyde United FC, where he champions a “football for all” philosophy. The club, home to over 500 junior players, also hosts a football education academy alongside its men’s and women’s first teams. His commitment to community-driven initiatives extends beyond sports.

In 2025, Armstrong was invited to serve as a judge for the Tameside Business Awards—an honour that reflects his dedication to supporting entrepreneurship and recognising excellence within the local economy. For Armstrong, the awards represent more than celebration—they’re a platform to inspire, connect, and elevate the next generation of business leaders. "Being part of the judging panel is a privilege," he says, "because it allows me to give back to a community that has played a big role in my journey."

Lynn joined Newland as their first full time secretary in 1975 after qualifying at Tameside College as a Private Secretary Linguist. Having been given many opportunities to expand her role and take on new duties, Lynn and her business partner Mike became shareholders in 2006.

Very much involved in the day to day running of the business Lynn has a passion to promote the importance of manufacturing/engineering to the UK economy and is a Board Member of the Manufacturing Technologies Association where she represents the Engineering Industries Association.

Lynn is proud to have received an MBE for services to business in Tameside in 2013.
